QP inaugurates $1bn JBGR Project
Qatar’s $1bn Jetty Boil-off Gas Recovery (JBOG) Project was officially inaugurated. The project will use Waste fuel from QatarGas to generate much needed LNG products.
The JBOG Recovery Project, which is part of the Common Facilities Projects at RasLaffan Industrial city, will collect boil-off gas from LNG ships and compress it at a central facility before sending it to LNG producers.
The JBOG is 70% owned by Qatar Petroleum, with Exxon Mobil, Total, Royal Dutch Shell and ConocoPhillips also having stakes. With its 100mn cubic feet of daily natural gas capacity, the project is the world’s biggest of its kind. It will recover the equivalent of some 600,000 tons of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) a year- enough to power more than 300,000 homes.
“We don’t have an expectation of an economic return from the project, but we will benefit from the recovered gas,” Said SaadSherida al-Kaabi, Qatar Petroleum’s chief executive officer.
