Middle East provides Japan with nearly 90% of its oil imports. As for natural gas, Japan imports almost all its needs in the form of liquefied natural gas (LNG) mainly from Southeast Asia, including Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei. For this reason, stable supply of energy and mineral resources from overseas is one of Japans most important concerns.
