Sara Al Amiri, Minister of State for Advanced Science, visited the Borouge Innovation Center in Abu Dhabi on July 4, 2018.

The Minister met with scientists and researchers from the UAE and abroad who are making a continuous effort to use advanced technologies to find solutions in the plastics industry that meet the needs of customers, enhance their productivity and reduce production costs.

The Minister also visited the Center for Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) of the Center, through which Bruges registered more than 30% of all patents registered by UAE applicants in the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) database.

The Minister added “The advancement of science is one of the pillars of sustainable development. The partnership between the government and the private sector is necessary to coordinate efforts and creative energies, to promote the exchange of knowledge and expertise, and to empower the science sector to be a key supporter in realizing our vision of leadership. This in turn stimulates the development of vital sectors and increases their competitiveness, in line with the UAE’s 2020 Plan, which sets the UAE’s future aspirations for further progress.”

The Minister noted: “I am delighted to visit the Bruges Center for Innovation and to explore its advanced technologies. I am proud of the UAE nationals I have met here who are contributing to the development of refineries and the petrochemical sector and play a pivotal role in enhancing the UAE’s creative capabilities in this field.”

The 2031 Advanced National Science Agenda embodies the scientific aspirations of the UAE and helps achieve the goals of the UAE 2071 Plan through three consecutive implementation plans, starting with Plan 2018-2021.

The development of the strategic sectors is a top priority on the agenda and includes eight priorities: the search for the future of natural resources, the development of the sustainable energy sector, the promotion of water security, the development of an advanced scientific system for food security, the development of advanced industrial sector, and the development of basic and strategic industries.
